Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) persists as a threat to public health since its declaration as such in 1991, despite the efforts made to control it. Globally, TB is the leading cause of death in the world due to a single infectious agent. In 2018, 10 million new cases were diagnosed, and around 1.5 million people died from this cause. Geographically, the distribution is uneven and the epidemic is concentrated in certain regions and countries with a high disease burden.

This ailment has been present in the health commitments of the international community. The World Health Organization, as a Specialized Agency of the United Nations, approved the “End Tuberculosis” Strategy at its World Assembly, including as goals the reduction of mortality by 90% and the incidence rate by 80%. % by 2035. This strategy has a marked commitment to the most vulnerable people, who are the most affected by the epidemic.
