Abstract

Since the first case of COVID-19 was identified in December 2019, the current pandemic has been a continuous challenge for the scientific community, with more than 100 million cases and more than 2 million deaths worldwide.

The first confirmed case of reinfection by SARS-CoV-2 was described in August 2020 in Hong Kong and since then several cases have been described in different regions of the world.

Knowing the frequency and characteristics of reinfections is essential for possible strategies to be adopted to control the pandemic, especially taking into account the spread of the new variants that are emerging (B.1.1.7, B.1.351, P .1) and the implication that these could have in reinfections.

In this work we present the first confirmed case of reinfection by SARS-CoV-2 in Galicia, Spain, and a summary of the data of the first reinfections studied in our autonomous community.
