El papel de los datos del mundo real en la prevención y el abordaje estructural de la obesidad infantil y adolescente en España

La obesidad infantil y adolescente representa un desafío prioritario para la Salud Pública por su elevada prevalencia, sus consecuencias a largo plazo y su fuerte vinculación con desigualdades sociales. Frente a enfoques centrados exclusivamente en el individuo, las estrategias preventivas estructurales e intersectoriales han demostrado mayor eficacia a nivel poblacional. En este contexto, los datos del mundo real (Real-World Data, RWD) ofrecen una oportunidad única para analizar de forma longitudinal la distribución de la obesidad, evaluar el impacto de las políticas públicas y anticipar desigualdades emergentes. Este artículo defiende la incorporación sistemática de la evidencia del mundo real (Real-World Evidence, RWE) en la planificación y evaluación de intervenciones preventivas en obesidad infantil, destacando el potencial de infraestructuras como la Base Poblacional de Salud de Andalucía (BPS) y la plataforma de análisis seguro PAGEM. Los RWD permiten caracterizar trayectorias clínicas, entornos obesogénicos y brechas sociales con un nivel de granularidad inédito. Su uso sistemático en Salud Pública puede marcar un punto de inflexión hacia modelos más proactivos, equitativos y sostenibles. El artículo propone, en definitiva, una hoja de ruta para utilizar de forma ética, segura y eficaz los RWD en el abordaje estructural de la obesidad infantil en España.
