Situación epidemiológica de la listeriosis en España entre 2013 y 2022 con datos administrativos de los sistemas de vigilancia y salud

Resumen

FUNDAMENTOS // La listeriosis está ampliamente distribuida y presenta una letalidad elevada en la población vulnerable. En este trabajo se analizaron las características epidemiológicas y la distribución temporal de la listeriosis en España durante el periodo 2013-2022.

MÉTODOS // Se realizó un estudio observacional descriptivo retrospectivo estudiando los casos individualizados y los brotes epidémicos de listeriosis notificados a la RENAVE, así como los datos registrados en el Conjunto Mínimo Básico de Datos de Altas Hospitalarias (CMBD) entre el 1 de enero de 2013 y el 31 de diciembre de 2022. Para realizar los cálculos los datos se trataron estadísticamente.

RESULTADOS // Se notificaron 3.597 casos individualizados, 29 brotes y 4.466 altas hospitalarias de listeriosis durante el periodo de estudio. La incidencia de los casos individualizados y de las altas hospitalarias alcanzó el valor máximo en 2019. En ambos registros la incidencia fue mayor en los hombres, en los menores de un año y a edades avanzadas. Según la regresión logística multivariante en las altas, ser hombre (ORa=2,78) y mayor de sesenta y cinco años (ORa=2,05) se asoció independientemente con la defunción. El número de casos individualizados y de altas hospitalarias mostró un marcado patrón estacional en los meses estivales mientras que el de los brotes fue más estable. La letalidad fue alta en los casos individualizados (18,44%) y en las altas hospitalarias (16,07%). La tasa de hospitalización fue del 90,47% en los casos individualizados.

CONCLUSIONES // La incidencia de la listeriosis en España es mayor que la media de la Unión Europea. El análisis de los registros electrónicos de altas hospitalarias, junto con los datos de vigilancia, aporta una descripción epidemiológica más completa. Las medidas de control y prevención de esta enfermedad deberían reforzarse en los grupos más afectados, así como sobre los alimentos de mayor riesgo. Los sistemas de recogida de información en los distintos registros deberían mejorarse.
