Abstract

Health Week is an initiative carried out in a hospital in Madrid with the aim of promoting the health, well-being and self-careof its workers. It is a health promotion pilot project framed within a larger project to promote healthy lifestyles by offering activities during and outside the working day that generate physical, social and emotional well-being. Implementation of an intervention to promote healthy habits designed on the basis of the results of a previous exploratory study with a quantitative and qualitative approach. The Health Week took place in February 2024 with 12 activities, during 5 days. The most popular were Zumba, HosPilates, Choir and Mindfulness. A total of 125 out of 800 employees participated, 90% women, mainly administrative assistants, nurses and nursing assistants. An average of 1.63 activities per person and 12 attendees per activity. Satisfaction was high: 90% were very satisfied, 100% would repeat and recommend the event. According to middle management, there were no organizational problems or tensions among workers, and 72% perceived improvements in the work environment. No incidents were reported during the week. Implementing programs to promote healthy habits among hospital workers is feasible and replicable. It is crucial that they are based on social determinants, to address community health problems in a comprehensive and equitable manner. In addition, they can foster a culture of self-care, improve the well-being of health professionals, generate a positive work climate and become social role models.
