Abstract

BACKGROUND // The Global Network for Tobacco Free Healthcare Services (GNTH) promotes international standards for implementing comprehensive tobacco prevention and control strategies in healthcare organizations through structured self-assessment and continuous improvement tools.
METHODS // We described the progressive implementation of a hospital-based tobacco prevention and control strategy based on the annual application of the GNTH-Global Self-Audit between 2022 and 2024 in a university hospital integrated into the Andalusian Network of Smoke-Free Healthcare Services (RASSELH). Main improvement areas identified and organizational strategies implemented were analyzed.
CONCLUSIONS // Periodic application of the GNTH-Global Self-Audit facilitates the identification of organizational needs, monitoring of implemented interventions, and the progressive development of continuous improvement strategies potentially transferable to other healthcare institutions.
