Abstract

We read with great interest the article by López-Pintor et al. (https://ojs.sanidad.gob.es/index.php/resp/article/view/323) on the relationship between the Cycle Threshold (CT) value of the initial polymerase chain reaction (PCR) of patients with COVID-19 and the persistence of infection.

Since late 2019, COVID-19 rapidly broke out around the world, causing a pandemic that has posed serious challenges to the medical community. To stop the spread of the virus, health officials have implemented a series of extraordinary Public Health measures, including quarantining people who have been exposed to COVID-19.

However, the optimal duration of quarantine remains a topic of debate, given findings regarding positive PCR test results for SARS-CoV-2 over many weeks. Therefore, identifying factors that predict negative tests could be useful in optimizing infection prevention and control measures, particularly in light of the current global effort to shorten the duration of isolation.
