Abstract

Healthcare-associated infections remain a major problem for healthcare services worldwide. They cause millions of deaths and affect patient safety. They entail a high psychological cost for the patient and their family, and also economic costs for the health system. Added to this is that the improper use of antibiotics over time has encouraged this type of microorganisms to create resistance, which represents one of the greatest threats to health worldwide. One of the ways to prevent and control the spread of these resistances is to prevent infections from occurring.
